I also was called up to the Old Bailey, but was sent back to work after two days as there were too many of us and not enough cases!

Re: Jury Service
One of the fundamental flaws in our justice system is that if you're accused of a crime you have to put your fate in the hands of 12 people who aren't smart enough to avoid jury service.

My boss did a 4 month case of a stabbing in Leyton last year. He had to learn some street lingo for the case!

Re: Jury Service
Probably the single most boring experience of my life.
Got called to the Old Bailey, sat around for 2 weeks and didn't get a single case.

Re: Jury Service
Done it once at York Crown.

First case was historical rape.

Second case was sexual abuse.

Pretty bad two weeks to sit through that. One guilty, one not guilty.

Re: Jury Service
I did jury service about 15 years ago, luckily I had quite an interesting case that lasted most of the two weeks so didn't have much time sitting around doing nothing.

Re: Jury Service
If it's anything like sitting there listening to people drone on in meetings at work, I think I'd be in serious trouble of falling asleep, which seems to want to happen every time.

My mum got a gang rape trial at snaresbrook and was having to get police guards home, as some of the gang hadn't been arrested and were at court every day threatening the jurors.

My mum is a daft pensioner racist (as all older people seem to be), so they were all fucked really.

Re: Jury Service
I did it when I was 19 and it's a shocking process. At that age I should never have been involved in judging whether someone is guilty or not. I was still watching Button Moon! It's really tiring too as you're literally doing nothing all day which is draining.

We found a bloke not guilty of assaulting another bloke and then a few of us went into a nearby pub afterwards. As we were in there, the bloke we found not guilty stumbled over all lashed up and thanked us all - as well as confessing that he'd "kicked the living shit out of that prick".

Lovely.

Re: Jury Service
Twice now. three weeks at isleworth 3 cases ( 2 guilty one not)

Three weeks at southwark three cases all guilty.

As much as its a pain to work around it, its a fulfilling and generally positive experience- you'll be surprised how reasonable & logical most jurors are.

Ridiculously ineffiicient process thought- they could fit in twice as mane cases if the judges and lawyers got their acts together.

Abiding memories? If I ever meet an honest nigerian, bangladeshi or somalian I'll eat my fucking hat,...yours as well...

Re: Jury Service
I'd like to be a fulltime Juror. Drive me around the the place so I can sit and judge people, for money, but without all the hasle of studying to become a judge and dressing like a ponce.

TIDY.

Re: Jury Service
Yeah I done this about 9 years ago when I was 18. Why would you choose an 18 year old mong like I was to decide whether some cunt beat his kid up or not.

NOT GUILTY

Re: Jury Service
Aalborg, police and other commissioned / warranted officers would be excused but the rules changed a while back. Now basically anyone is can be called. Even a judge could be called for jury service now. I'm sure there would be some goings on behind the scenes to avoid that though.

Re: Jury Service
Did it and loved it, would do it again in a flash.

Got selected for a rape case (which I heard went on for 4 months) but they changed me last minute.

Think it was because I recognised Milly in the defendants stand. It was the bumblebee top.
